Our Story

For more than 20 years, I worked in international public health, mostly in places where food was grown, not engineered, and nutrition shaped daily life. I expected those experiences to influence my career. I didn’t expect them to return years later, in my own kitchen, when tiny hands reached for chocolate.

When my daughter developed food allergies, chocolate stopped feeling simple. Grocery shopping became label-reading and second-guessing. The options felt limited. Unsafe, overly processed, or framed as better for you while hiding refined sugars and fillers. I wanted chocolate I could trust and enjoy without explanation.

After putting yet another chocolate bar back on the shelf, I stopped searching and went home to make my own. Cocoa. Coconut sugar. Spirulina, a nutrient-dense plant I first learned about while working overseas. It worked. We didn’t have a name yet, but BELOVD existed.
