Our Story
For more than 20 years, I worked in international public health, mostly in places where food was grown, not engineered. I expected those experiences to influence my career. I didn’t expect them to return years later, in my own kitchen, when tiny hands reached for a piece of chocolate.
When my daughter developed food allergies, grocery shopping became an exercise in compromise. The ingredient lists were long. The claims were louder than the food itself. Chocolate was either filled with ingredients I didn’t recognize or positioned as something to feel guilty about enjoying.
I wanted something simpler. Chocolate made with ingredients chosen on purpose. Chocolate that tasted exceptional and felt easy to trust.
After putting yet another bar back on the shelf, I went home and made my own. Cocoa. Coconut sugar. Spirulina, a nutrient-dense plant I first encountered during my work overseas. The result was rich, balanced, and deeply satisfying. We didn’t have a name for it yet, but it quickly became the chocolate we reached for again and again.
That first batch was BELOVD.
Today, every BELOVD bar still starts with those same three ingredients. Our COCOALINA® blend remains the foundation. Ingredient lists stay short. Choices stay intentional. Every ingredient earns its place.
